Instant Geyser v/s Storage Geyser- What is the Difference?

The winter season is just around the corner and the last thing you want is to take a cold shower on a chilly winter morning. Thus, water heaters are a must-have during this weather.

Now, before you set out to buy a water heater for your home, it is important to zero in on the type of geyser that you need.

Broadly speaking, there are two types of electric water heaters - storage water heaters and instant water heaters. Both kinds of geysers are equally effective and provide unique benefits. Thus, you must choose one as per your needs.

In this blog, we will highlight key differences between storage geysers and instant geysers. This will help you to make an informed decision and select the best water heater for your home.

Introduction to storage geysers and instant geysers

Storage geysers are water heating units that come with an inbuilt tank that can store hot water for long durations. On the other hand, instant water heaters are appliances that heat water on demand.

While both these categories of geysers are built differently, they are just as beneficial.

Difference between storage geysers and instant geysers

Here’s a comparison of storage geysers and instant geysers based on key parameters:

Size:

Storage geysers: Storage water heaters are bigger in size due to the inbuilt storage tank. Hence, they can take up more space on your bathroom wall. They also tend to be bulky, so you must handle them carefully during installation.

Instant geysers: Instant water heaters are compact. They come in small sizes that are much easier to install. They are usually lightweight and occupy lesser space in your bathroom.

Capacity:

Storage geysers: Storage water heaters are available in higher capacities ranging from 6 litres to 100 litres. They can store hot water for long durations. The storage capacity depends on the volume of the storage tank. Storage geysers above 15L capacities are suitable for big families.

Instant geysers: Instant geysers come in smaller capacities ranging from 1 litre and 3 litres. These geysers provide hot water in an instant. Such geysers are ideal for applications where hot water is required instantly but in a relatively lesser volume.

Lifespan:

Storage geysers: The lifespan of your geyser will depend on various factors like regular maintenance, water quality, and various others. But on average, storage geysers have a lifespan of more than 10 years*. With our Omnis range of storage geysers, you get a warranty of seven years on the inner tank. Thus, you need not worry about its longevity.

(*Subject to water quality and hardness. The hardness of the water used in the geyser should not be more than 300 ppm)

Instant geysers: The lifespan of an instant water heater is longer as it requires less maintenance. On average, an instant water heater can last for more than 7 years*, if it is regularly serviced. With our Pronto range of instant geysers, you get a warranty of five years on the inner tank. Thus, you can rest assured about it.

(*Subject to water quality and hardness. The hardness of the water used in the geyser should not be more than 300 ppm)

energy

Power consumption:

Storage geysers: As the storage water heaters heat large volumes of water at once and then intermittently heat water to maintain the water temperature in the tank, they consume comparatively more power.

However, most of our geysers are five-star rated by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power. Moreover, Racold has won the BEE award 10 times, for energy-efficient products. Thus, you can count on the energy efficiency of our products

Instant geysers: Instant water heaters consume less electricity because they heat water as and when needed for use.

As explained earlier, instant geysers do not have hot water storage tanks, hence intermittent heating for maintaining water temperature in the tank is also not required. Thus these geysers leave more scope for saving energy.

Price:

Storage geysers: Storage water heaters are priced between the range of Rs. 7,000/- to Rs. 20,000/-.

Instant geysers: Instant water heaters are between the range of Rs. 3,000/- to Rs. 5,000/-.

Multipoint usage:

Storage geysers: Storage water heaters can supply hot water at multiple outlet points in your house. So, if you need hot water in the kitchen for washing the dishes as well as for bathing, such geysers are more suitable for you. They can easily provide hot water at different locations at the same time without any temperature fluctuations.

Instant geysers: Instant water heaters are equipped with a fast-heating element that can provide you with hot water instantly. But such geysers supply hot water in relatively lesser volumes, which are not suitable for multipoint usage.

Safety:

Storage geysers: At Racold, we also provide the safest storage water heaters. They are equipped with three levels of safety against high temperature and pressure with a thermostat, cutout and safety valve. Our Omnis Range of Water heaters are ingrained with an advanced microprocessor that allows for an auto diagnosis of the heater to ensure the complete safety of your family

Instant geysers: Racold’s instant water heaters ensure utmost safety of the user with features like a stem-type thermostat and cutout. We have also incorporated the anti-siphon system in our Pronto range of instant water heaters to avoid dry heating. Here are Five Best Features to Look For in your next Storage Water Heater

After going through a holistic comparison of instant geysers and storage geysers, we’re sure you’d agree that both kinds of water heaters are equally safe, effective, and useful. Thus, you can choose the one that suits you best.
